Veterinary Lab Technician - FT - 2nd Shift

MedVet is currently seeking a Veterinary Lab Technician to join our team in our Chicago hospital. Under the general supervision of the E/CC and Nursing manager, the lab technician per form labwork for the hospital. They run labwork, prepare samples to send out to referral laboratories, troubleshoot lab equipment, and communicate with the clinical staff when issues with samples arise.

Responsibilities:

  • Run CBC/Chemistry profiles via analyzer
    • Recognize abnormal values and perform blood smears, dilutions and re-tests as needed
  • Perform/record fecal float and smears
  • Perform/record blood smears
  • Prepare blood products for transfusion
  • Prepare samples to send out to referral laboratories
  • Perform and record urinalysis (ability to read a urine sediment is required)
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and utilize a microscrope

Education and/or Experience: HS diploma, GED or previous client service. Must have an understanding of medical terminology in order to communicate with clinical team on lab findings

Shift:  The position is full time, second shift.  Weekends, on-call and holidays based on needs of the department.
